- starts off very formal, shorter letters, that grow longer and more raw and honest the longer they write to each other
- shiro’s handwriting gets shakier/messier when he loses his dominant hand while out in the trenches
- allura grows more attached & more worried about him as time goes on
- they exchange just letters for a long, LONG time before ever meeting in person
- allura sends him a picture of herself and if shiro didn’t have a crush before oh boy he’s got it bad because not only is she kind and intelligent she’s beautiful
- he keeps the picture tucked into his breast pocket of his jacket, where it’ll be safe. over his heart.
- it takes longer for him to get a photo to her but once he does she is similarly blown away bc oh no, he’s hot
- when shiro has a brief leave they meet for the first time and there’s this weird, stifling moment when their eyes meet, because what if interacting in person is different than in pen and -
- shiro sticks out his metal hand. “it’s nice to meet you.”
- allura breaks into a smile, “it’s nice to meet you too,” and shakes his hand, but doesn’t let go.
- she tugs him into a kiss and he wraps his arm around her waist and they break away with huge grins
- a year after his service is over he proposes
